The Eldean Road #35-55-01, Covered Bridge spans the Great Miami River two miles north of Troy. The Great Miami River has a 210 foot bed width at the bridge site and is the major drainage river for southwestern Ohio.
The Eldean Road Covered Bridge is the second longest covered bridge in Ohio, with a 234 foot span. Built in 1860 with a Long Truss. This covered bridge has the singular distinction of being the longest covered bridge in the United States with a Long Truss in existence today.
The exterior has a white tin roof, faded red plank siding and four small windows on each side of the bridge. The Eldean Road Covered Bridge has two spans with one pier, and abutments made of cut stone.
The bridge has been bypassed for preservation but is still open and traffic does use the bridge as a secondary entrance and exit for a small park. To maintain the bridge’s longevity, vehicles should be prevented from traversing the bridge. The Eldean Road Covered Bridge is a favorite of covered bridge enthusiasts because of the nature of the river, length of the bridge and truss, and the beautiful location. The Eldean Road Covered Bridge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
